EASTERN MARKET SHED 7
AARON BALDWIN
PROFESSOR DAN FAORO

The goal of this studio was to develop a work of architecture through the sequential aggregation of morphology, energy, enclosure and site context. Through the integration of these items, SHED 7 offers multi-use programming located at the end of Eastern Market in Detroit. Utilizing photo-voltaic panels and solar heating, the building is able to generate over 670,000 kWh per year, along with heat and rainwater collection.
The rigid, orthogonal nature of the precast-concrete structure begins to inform the shape and organization of the building. Contrasting the heavy concrete, white fabric, articulated at the major corner of the site and within the interior, starts a material discourse and introduction of organic, moving form to the project.
